Account Director- Pharmaceutical Industry

Kent/East Sussex

The main purpose of this role is leading the delivery of effective, innovative and profitable service on client accounts and programmes. The Account Director in partnership with the Account Manager, will make sure all programmes with clients are delivered to the highest standard and new opportunities are identified to grow the client’s health business.

As the Account Director, you will own and continue to build upon existing client relationships, as well as identifying new client accounts with key decision makers and generating new business within target organisations, typically being Pharmaceutical Companies.

This opportunity needs someone who has experience in b2b sales, opportunity sourcing, identifying leads, sales process, meeting and presentation management (with some potential of overseas travel), negotiation, proposal preparation and deal closing.

Pharma Sector and Medical Communication/Education experience would be a huge advantage. This opportunity will suit someone with previous sales experience and is looking for a new challenge that will improve their skills.

Job Title: Account Director

Salary: ~£45,000 - £60,000

Benefits: Bonus - % of salary up to 15% + % of personal new business gained

Location: Kent/East Sussex

Travel: Openness to Global Travel

The key responsibilities for this role are:

  • Proven knowledge of pharmaceutical client personnel and their business environment
  • Excellent understanding of Medical Education and how projects sit within client accounts
  • Understanding of business goals of clients and the company, and find opportunities to expand the business on certain client accounts
  • Provide regular status insights to the client about ongoing programmes an Identify potential new clients and decision makers within accounts
  •  Constant development of proposals/budgets to provide the clients with solutions for programmes to meet their communication needs
  • Ownership of strategic planning and account expansion
  • Cross-selling: networking with the client organisation to acquire new programmes outside current spec
  • Up-selling: identifying additional activities with existing clients that add value to client
  • Renewals: excellent programme delivery resulting in client renewals
  • Collaborative internal/external team meetings and discussions, to ensure that client business needs are addressed
  • While maintaining internal processes and best practice, you will deliver a high level of attention to detail at all times, both with clients and internal documents
  • Ensure tactical focus of all materials and programmes delivered while reviewing their content when necessary, consistently meeting the client needs
  • Leading and attend off-site client meetings/conferences and events

Required Experience:

  • Must have experience in a similar role in the Medical Education/Communications industry
  • Good knowledge of Medical Communications, digital publishing/media, and pharmaceutical medical/marketing 
  • Ability to be the lead of multiple accounts and programmes, building rapport and retaining client relationships, to deliver them profitably
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills ability to work in a high- pressure environment
  • Proven experience of delivery of revenue targets, growing existing business and ensuring annual renewal of contracts
  • Ability to review and monitor competition, identifying new business opportunities and add strategic value
  • International experience - collaborations with non-UK partners
  • Proven record of managing personal KPI’s and targets
