Business Development Manager – Construction/Property Location: London (City of London), Days in Office: Hybrid - 1 or 2 times a week depending on meetings Salary: £30k - £40k + OTE – Salary is dependant on experience, with relevance to industry, so ability to add immediate value. When was the last time you walked in somewhere and went “Wow this place is nice”. I mean the kind of ‘wow’ you get if you stepped into the Burj Al Arab’s reception for the first time… It’s because of the sense of luxury beyond reason. No corners cut. So there’s nothing in the world which can challenge it on its quality. That’s what this brand set out to achieve in the luxury branded paint market. Having been featured in an impressive array of high-end lifestyle media outlets and having established brand partnerships with similar, they’re looking for a BDM who’s able to build upon this by expanding the company’s trade partnerships across various industry channels. Maintaining their exclusive high-end brand appeal, whilst also opening up new routes to market which increases their share of market opportunity. The trade routes they’re considering reflect their brand positioning. This will include opportunities such as: High-end residential and commercial developments Interior designers and corporate interior fitters Architects Luxury hotel chains High-end retail spaces and respective property owners You will be responsible for defining and executing both a direct and indirect business development strategy, designed to grow and nurture opportunities for new trade customer accounts, which will include cold outreach strategies as well as nurture programmes for warm account growth from existing customers. Your audience will be mid to large corporates whose main interest centres on the quality of the product, rather than a ‘price first’ mentality. They will typically have multiple sites which require maintaining, and the client will recognise ‘buy cheap, pay twice’. Hence their interest lies in ensuring the quality of the product is top-notch. Despite being a relative start-up, this company has a well-established customer base already which they’re looking to build from. So can already prove value and their product being a cut above. They perceive their product as being the ‘next generation’ of leading brand in this space and has a platform to build from. What they need from you is the ability to successfully get their message across, cut through with the relevant audiences, secure those meetings with decision makers and who’s able to close in the room those high volume recuring deals which helps their business grow. The environment itself really similar to what you might find in a traditional sales environment. The role reports into the Commercial Director and will be focused on landing those meetings/deals. This role isn’t going to be cold-calling but you will be researching new clients and figuring out the sales strategy, both in and outbound, then putting it into action. Managing and maintaining the opportunity pipeline and ensuring conversions are consistent and maintain the right volumes and margins. Plus providing reporting to senior leadership on what’s happening at ground level. How performance is against target, what’s working from what’s not and what actions you’re taking to help remediate and capitalise on opportunities. ABOUT THE ROLE The role is going to be working directly with the Commercial Director, they are a truly inspiring leader with a great pedigree within premium and luxury brands. You will work with them to help create a portfolio of corporate customers. Your role has a roadmap to grow and expand once you’ve hit key milestones. RESPONSIBILITIES Business development - direct: you’ll proactively grow and nurture opportunities for new trade accounts through direct outbound business development. In addition to this, you will assist with the development of inbound trade leads/customers Business development - indirect: you’ll assist with the creation and management of of cold outreach lists and identify key content opportunities across a variety of platforms Account management: you’ll take the lead on ensuring your trade accounts receive the highest levels of service, ensuring all trade project requirements are fulfilled smoothly, from specification support through to on-time project fulfilment. Build ongoing relationships: you’ll be integral to converting existing contacts, alongside driving repeat business and increased sales volume. Generating new leads through referrals/introductions will be part of the routine sales process Other ad-hoc requirements for the business: We’re a startup, so there’s always some ‘mucking in’ to be done. EXPERIENCE NECESSARY Sales: you know how to research, develop and secure clients on a perpetual basis. Pipeline management: you’ll know how to build and manage an opportunity pipeline from scratch. Reporting: you’ll need to be an entrepreneurial character. Just like the rest of us in a startup, you’re selling the brand and you’ll be responsible for delivering the targets you create with us. Communications: you’ve got to be someone that thrives off relationships. You’ll have experience building and nurturing lucrative professional relationships. You can also write comms too, and support the content team in developing relevant B2B comms for your segment. Brand knowledge: The brand is a premium paint brand, at the top of our game for quality and sustainability. Having experience with and understanding of brand value is critical for someone that will be the face of the brand to an important customer segment. Creativity: you’ll be speaking with interior designers and architects, involved in project specifications. Being a creative sole is key, prior experience with interiors would also be very beneficial.
