Role:                     Business Manager, Projects and Programme Governance
Location
:             Central London
Salary:                  £50,000 to £65,000
Benefits:             10% annual bonus, pension, healthcare, life assurance

If your career so far has come through Project and Programme Management for technology business units and you’re wondering ‘what’s next?’, you might find the following opportunity as a Business Manager somewhat appealing.

First thing to highlight is this isn’t another role in the same vein. It’s one which will utilise the experience you’ve gained in project and programme management then build upon it further.

You’re going to be working alongside the MD and senior leadership for a FTSE top 30, multi-billion pound technology firm. Responsible for the coordination of change projects which are supporting the business’ evolution from manual/physical products to one centred around digital services.

But beyond this, the level and breadth of senior business exposure you will gain will be unparalleled by other firms offering opportunities of similar career levels. Working with the top execs of a business so big will stand you in fantastic stead for career development. To evidence this, the reason this role has arisen is due to an internal promotion.

You’ll be helping to steer direction, keeping abreast of change programmes within the business unit. Understanding the various processes involved and complexity of stakeholder engagement necessary to keep everything moving. But you’re not someone who’s wedded to process and can orientate in an Agile environment successfully, seeing opportunities to improve outcomes and deliver better results.

Because of the pace of change and scale of the organisation, there’s going to be a lot of occasions where you’re dealing with ambiguity. Cutting through this, translating and prioritising needs, ensuring the team is set up for success and able to achieve their strategic goals.

Some additional responsibilities:

  • You’ll be producing project updates for MD and C-Suite consumption. Ensuring key messaging is relevant, engaging and tailored to audience and objectives. These will include operations reviews, regular business reviews, keynote speeches and performance updates.
  • You’ll become the go-to person for resolutions, and know who to turn to and engage to help resolve problems. Escalating where appropriate and be able to ensure barriers are effectively navigated or removed.
  • You will also be updating the various units and their leadership on programme progress. Maintaining reporting outputs and ensuring this is effectively communicated to all relevant stakeholders, either directly, or through internal comms programmes where the scale of projects impact the wider business too.

KEY EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • Project or programme management background aligned to IT based change within big corporate environment
  • Potentially from a management consulting background where you’ve been responsible for handling the client engagement and project oversight of large-scale change/transformation projects
  • Any experience within firms making similar digital transformations would be ideal
  • Been in a role where you’ve had exposure to both business and tech strategy, and how the two come together
  • Collaborative, and able to demonstrate where you’ve had to work with lots of different teams, ensuring they’re all properly aligned behind projects
  • Interested in a role with lots of senior exposure, comfortable leading change programmes which blend people and technology, and able to deal with ambiguity and complexity
