“The pen is mightier than the sword!”

Especially in business.

After all, it’s unlikely any company will successfully land new business trying to stab customers.

But you know this, as you wield this weapon of choice – even though these days it’s probably a keyboard and mouse.

In a content led marketing environment, what you’re providing is the fuel for the marketing team’s engine.

From e-books for lead generation and content for social and email campaigns which support events and webinars. Through to content which influences right across the funnel. Driving those all-important MQL and SQL metrics.

We’re talking about being part of a pacey, highly collaborative working environment you’d expect to find in any highly successful SaaS firm.

You’ve also got a good spread of audience you’re looking to target too. Including the search marketing digital community, marketing functions for all manner of ecommerce brands, and digital developer teams too.

In addition, there’s some new products on the horizon soon to launch which will need a content strategy too. So there’s opportunity for even more variety on the horizon.

The way things will typically balance out when it comes to content creation will be roughly a 70/30 split between briefing out content projects to your bank of freelance contractors, vs getting your hands dirty and delivering yourself.

The things you’d want to handle yourself will normally be big ticket items, and things which need careful curation. This could be because they’re highly visible pieces in partnership with industry experts and business celebrities.  Through to things which have a close link to the company’s brand image. So they have to be handled with real care and craft.

You know Content Marketing isn’t just about setting up a content strategy, and includes managing content resource by working with copywriters and design freelancers. As well as website management, working with developers to ensure everything it up to date and joined together.

Key Experience

  • A decent amount of experience in content marketing for the B2B tech space. Be that software or SaaS
  • You’ve been the one who’s designed, built and implemented a content marketing strategy for a business in that space
  • You get how to measure performance, and can show how stuff you’ve done in this area has had a business impact
  • You know how to take stuff that’s happening in the digital marketing world and translate it into compelling and engaging stories for external source consumption over multiple channels
  • You get how to analyse stuff – be that from an external market, customer interests or horizon scanning for content strategy ideas. Plus dropping into content campaigns in-flight and tweaking things to improve performance.
