Data Engineer - Azure

Location: Tunbridge Wells, Kent (remotely for the current time being)
Salary: up to £60,000
Benefits: 28 days holiday, pension and discount on products

Stable | Secure | Solid employer brand

Outside of the role, I’m assuming because of the employment landscape we find ourselves in, these are going to be the 3 key things you need to see in any prospective opportunity before deciding to apply, right?

Stable – Massive financial backing and a lot of infrastructure around them. They’re a heritage business with deep roots and a diversified set of product and service offerings which have stood up well in the current climate.

Secure – They’re one of the few businesses who have seen a rise in demand since the global health crisis hit the UK, and it’s directly connected and relevant to their product offering.

Solid employer brand – Globally recognised as a market lead across pretty much all markets their brand and its offerings extend across.

About the role

Their data team is normally situated in their Tunbridge Wells offices. However, given the circumstances, they’re all working remotely now. As will you for the time being.

You will be joining a data division which has grown exponentially over the last 3 years in response to business need. The Data Engineering team is currently 5 people, but it’s a broader data team of 70+ which includes Data Science, Data Management and Data Governance, primarily based out of the Tunbridge Wells offices.

It’s a team that’s entrepreneurial and consultative in approach with the wider business, Offering big projects with the ability to really shape their data capability, as they move it from what was silos set across multiple locations to a single Cloud based platform using MS Azure.

They’re hoping you will bring you enough experience in working with this technology that you’re able to demonstrate autonomy and the ability to shape ideas around how’s best to shape, store and process their data.

So putting your data engineering skills to good use, re-shaping their data, making it accessible and in optimum form for use by the data science function. So it can be as commercially meaningful as possible.

Some of this migration work has been done over the last year. This has already given business benefit and helped solve some issues which couldn’t never have been achieved before, but there’s still lots more to do.

End user needs are ever growing, and there is a big focus on data standardization across the company. So you will need to speak with stakeholders, understand the gaps, and revisit/reshape the model to better fit requirements. Now the capabilities are there, quality of action is critical.

All interviews by the client will be held via video conference. Onboarding will also be handled in a similar manner, until such time as Government guidance changes.

Must have experience of:

  • Microsoft Azure and working with Hadoop Suite/Spark
  • Advanced SQL
  • Good knowledge of Azure Databricks
  • Data Modelling - specifically Olap, Star Schema and Enterprise modelling essential
  • Python
  • Awareness of Data Management best practice

You must have the right to live and work in the UK unrestricted – as this employer will not be able to provide sponsorship.
