This is a new role within a newly formed team. The Data Science division has been created to elevate what’s possible to achieve though leveraging this business’ data assets through the application of data science techniques. There's some really exciting discovery work they're dealing with, and an incredible amount of potential use cases which need testing and proving. So it's an exciting time to join, especially with the move to tool agnostic, and the ability to learn new tools and techniques this will afford.

ABOUT THE ROLE

They’ve always had a pretty sizable data function (150+ people). But following a pretty significant change in thinking, they’ve brought together their 3 consumer brands into the one operational business, pulling their data teams together and creating this new function.

The resultant data environment is huge (circa 34m customers). Making it one of the largest relational consumer databases in the UK. They’re is in the process of moving the 3 databases together onto the one Cloud based (AWS) data warehouse. Containing everything about their customers - their interactions, value, behaviours, financial and anything else they’re able to capture and store in a GDPR compliant manner.

We’re talking billions of lines of data each week, pertaining to multiple product offerings and across all 3 consumer brands.

Historically (and prior to this realignment), aspects of this team handled propensity modelling and predictive analytics. Building and maintaining next best offer engines, predicting likelihood of churn based on a set of variables and scenarios, and some other more traditional CRM based pieces.

However that’s going to evolve. The newly formed Data Science team are going to be looking at the art of what’s possible with all this information, leveraging data science techniques including NLP, artificial intelligence and machine learning to both resolve business challenges, to identify and unlock potential, inform investment decisions and drive commercial results. Empowering decision making with ever more relevant and commercially useful insight which benefits the business and its customers.

TECH STACK AND TOOLS

In terms of tech stacks – they’re in the process of working through bringing their 3 data estates into one. Putting it all into an AWS environment.

Their core analysis/programming tools are both R and Python – but they’re going to be moving to a tool agnostic mentality – leaving it to the data scientist to decide what tool would be best to tackle the business challenge at hand.

WHY APPLY?

  • If you’d like a real opportunity to drive results. Providing thinking behind how to best apply data science to any given business challenge and not walk a path well trodden. This role’s for you.
  • If you’re looking for a truly data rich environment – one which has granular information about their customers, with a proper relationship over time showing detailed behaviours, interests and insights which can be successfully leveraged in analysis projects - this role’s for you
  • If you’re looking for a firm with a great reputation, one which will definitely add to your CV, and a business whose average tenure for employees is 8+ years due to high employee satisfaction – this role’s for you.
