THE OPPORTUNITY

You’ll be working as part of a team of data strategists, ranging from junior through to Director grade. The team supports media and marketing initiatives for one of the bigger loyalty schemes out there, as well as the wider retail group it is part of.

The bias of your role will be to up-weight their capabilities around digital data planning and strategy. Looking at the wealth of own brand and partner based campaigns which they’re looking to deliver. With you holding the keys to what is a very new digital trading platform the campaigns are executed through.

You’re going to have one report helping you with this. They’ll typically be handling the briefs, with you providing quality control. Picking up on targeting guidelines and legalities around things like GDPR and what data can and can’t be used for each.

You’ll also be evaluation of audiences, again, looking to quality control and ensure things are on point.

In addition, you’ll be responsible for looking at new requirements as they arise from the business and partners of the loyalty programme. Tracking their progress and ensuring they’re properly delivered.

You’ll have a strong voice on the planning side of things. Coming up with ideas of what to go after next and how those opportunities could benefit the customer, as well as loyalty partners.

You’ll own the targeting guidelines for digital channels. Navigating the process piece, thinking through how to build for use. This will extend to a broader appreciation of what ‘digital’ is. So beyond Facebook and Youtube, and looking into advanced TV, programmatic and other channels too.

With this in mind, despite it being initially a maternity cover engagement, there are huge career development opportunities available – people from this team have moved into many different areas successfully. Including analytics, insights, campaigns, loyalty, digital … and with each individual, the Directors work out personalised development plans which play to your own strengths and ambitions.

They are also very open minded as to your background – you may have come from more of an Analyst background, or perhaps worked in category insights, insights consultancy or client services. Fundamentally, we are seeking people who enjoy using data strategically to solve problems for end users, and can think creatively about the application of data and how it can be used to improve decision making for marketing purposes.

You will need to demonstrate an ability to spot opportunity for data projects as well, work out how the loyalty scheme and the data it generates can continue to optimise marketing performance, customer engagement, loyalty and category performance. All followed through with excellent relationship building skills and a desire to make informed, insightful recommendations on how to improve targeted marketing and customer understanding using data.

Skills and experience required:

  • Educated to at least degree level, ideally in a numerate subject; Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Machine Learning, Computer Science etc.
  • Comfortable being hands-on with data and digging into it to identify key insights and opportunities
  • Experience could be from a digital data strategy role, or an omni-channel background, but you’re very familiar and comfortable with digital channels nonetheless
  • A problem solving approach, ability to apply analytics to improve customer understanding and in turn CRM and marketing campaign performance through the use of data strategies
  • A curious nature, and inquisitive nature plus an ability to build strong relationships with direct reports and senior level stakeholders
