Role: Digital Designer / Artworker
Location: Birmingham will be the principal site. Potential option for London base.
Salary: £28,000 to £32,000 plus 10% bonus, pension, healthcare, life assurance and lots more.
Office/Home working: Between 2-3 days from office per week maximum

Why the two job titles?

Because we’re hiring for a team build, so are looking for a few people with similar experience, just at different stages of the career journey.

Starting with the Artworker roles – You’ll be given the job title of Creative Designer. But being candid of what to expect, all the big asset creation and concept work is done by a different team. You’ll have some scope on testing, but the work is more creating and fitting assets for existing templates.

The work is principally for digital channels, so will include static and animation. The motion graphics are principally Gifs for use with email, MMS, digital display banners. But there is still a little bit of print in there too. So having some offline experience is always handy.

The creative you’ll be producing will be used for marketing campaigns. Working across multiple brands as well as product categories. So there’s a pretty decent level of variety in this one too.

If you're a more experienced Digital Designer looking for something a bit more challenging, there's the scope to offer you this too. Principally in the form of larger, more complex projects to handle and be involved in. You’ll also be expected to be a more experienced voice in the team when it comes to challenging ideas and coming up with your own, managing projects autonomously as well as showing the skills to collaborate effectively in a squad set up to deliver the needed outcomes.

You’ll be part of the marketing team, working in squads made up of CRM/customer marketers, digital, campaign managers, copywriters and of course creative resources.

Each squad is in effect its own internal agency. Engaging with the wider business to create and deliver campaigns to the company’s customer base.

Typically, campaigns will be a mix of social media, MMS campaigns, direct mailers, email and digital.

There’s a couple of brands to get your teeth into, no matter what level you're coming into this at. Each brand has a very different creative style, targeting different audience demographics with their services. So you’ll need to be comfortable working to brand style guidelines and able to adapt approach to suit each one.

About the business

It’s a direct to consumer, multi-product, multi brand environment business, and a huge employer brand name to boot.

They’re a really high profile marketer, and listed amongst the highest spenders in the UK across both digital and offline channels.

In addition, they’ve got one of the biggest customer bases of a UK firm too. Tens of millions of customers use their products every day, and they execute more than 3m pieces of customer marketing a week. So it’s a great home to become part of if you’re looking to really accelerate your career with some really high profile, visible work.

About you

As we’re looking for a number of appointments at different levels, we’re interested in people who are starting their journey in the graphic design and artwork space, but have a bit of commercial experience under their belts. Right through to experienced hands who’ve worked for agencies or client side, and have a good portfolio of work behind them doing this kind of thing.

Here's some of the bullet points:

  • All the usual Adobe skills you’d typically have get from being conversant with Creative Suite – e.g. In Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
  • A portfolio of work you can share to showcase your skills in digital and print design
  • Some experience with animation is useful, namely Gifs
  • For the more senior roles, project management skills are desirable, so you can take things from brief and execute confidently. Including all the stakeholder piece which comes with that
  • If you’ve worked in an Agile environment before, that would be fab.
  • Good knowledge of digital design principals
