What’s your motivation for reading this advert?

Is it the premise of a larger salary?

The hope your about to read about your dream job with one of your personal hero brands?

That this opportunity might help solve a problem in your life – be it through offering a more flexible working or a convenient commuting location?

Or maybe, you’ve just read the job title and are clicking ‘apply now’ to every role of this type without reading further?

Whatever the motivation might be, there’s a few important aspects to cover for you before asking you to read the finer details:

  1. Yes, there is a big shiny brand behind this advert. Perhaps one of the biggest of their kind in the UK and perhaps world.
  2. They’re aligned to the telecoms and media industry and have a very large footprint across both consumer and corporate markets
  3. This position specifically aligns to the small business segment, and owns the digital and ecommerce trading aspects for their broadband and some mobile categories
  4. Because it’s small business, and the marketing and targeting/behavioural/decision making aligns so closely to Consumer segments, the business is interested in people who have either b2b or b2c backgrounds
  5. The location is flexible, and they’re happy to assign the role to any of the 3 locations outlined above. They offer flexible/dynamic working, and typically this translates to visiting the office twice a week. Not necessarily for full days – it really depends on your work/meetings, etc. too.

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll be holding an individual contributor remit. This means owner for the product category, and responsible for creating, executing and tweaking online trading plans. This will basically mean everything the customer experiences when on the ecommerce store.

Oversighting digital merchandising, product launches, re-targeting and upselling strategies, co-partner trading campaigns with big handset and device manufacturers like Apple and Samsung too.

Digging into the trading and online data, understanding where pinch points and drop offs are occurring. Understanding why, then pulling together tactical plans to tweak digital journeys or promotional strategies which will help drive high volumes and value of conversions.

It’s a big remit, and the category is worth billions to the business in turnover each year.

Plus as you’ll be principally be aligned to their cash cow and main product category, there’s a lot of attention paid by senior leaders to its performance and outcomes. It is massively successful and has been for years. Plus they’re about to embark on the launch of a range of new services and solutions which should see plenty of opportunity for you to really shine.

There is a team around you, with other ecommerce trading managers responsible for their own product categories. But there’s a lot of collaboration too.

Especially when it comes to bundling propositions together, and looking at the combined performance opportunity this can bring. So whilst it’s important you’re the kind of person who is hungry to drive your own product category’s digital trading success, the team work highly collaboratively to ensure the whole business unit succeeds.

Key Experience Needed

  • Solid ecommerce and digital trading background for a large-scale consumer or b2b brand
  • Data centric mindset, able to pick apart trading data and digital data to identify the right insights and actions to take in order to drive results
  • Conversant to a degree with Adobe Analytics
  • Commercially sound, when making recommendations for action and changes to promotions as well as online merchandising
  • Confident in the ability to influence senior leadership and exec teams around strategies and ideas
