Role: Head of Analytics and Data Science

Location: Bristol – office up to 3 days a week. Rest is work from home
Salary: £90,000 to £110,000, plus £5.5k car allowance, 15% bonus, pension, healthcare, etc.

This is a brand new role in a completely new team.

You've got a team of 8 to hire too, and no legacy issues to contend with.

The mandate is to introduce the benefits of data science and its application to a massive company's centralised finance team.

We're talking about bringing AI and ML into a business unit which has to date only had Excel flying around.

The opportunities for innovation are enormous, as are the chances to deliver meaningful commercial impact through the solutions you and your team will be creating and operationalising.

You don't specifically need to have experience of working around a finance function for this. The kind of things you might be looking at include customer value projects and a good blend of descriptive and predictive analytics pieces. So could including pricing engines, behavioural modelling, value driver trees and lots more.

The scale of the data asset is massive too, and core tools will include Python for coding.

This is a leadership role, but there is the need to be close enough to the things your team are building to be able to ensure its quality is good. So having a background where you perhaps came from a hands-on role coding role in your past would help in delivering that.

The big thing with this is the ability to drive projects of work through leadership of your team which will have a demonstrable commercial impact on the organisation and its customers.

Building the roadmap for how the application of data science techniques to their commercial and financial data can help unlock insights which haven’t been realised for the business and empower strategic decision making and investment strategies for the business.

The headroom for innovation will be incredible. This isn’t just a reporting environment or turn-handle role. This is one of those rare opportunities to have a real impact. To test theories and trial new ideas. To fail forwards and by doing so, learn and grow.

It’s the kind of opportunity which doesn’t come around too often.

So, what are you waiting for?

EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • You’ve come through the ranks of a data science field and are now looking for your opportunity to take control of your own division
  • Whilst you probably don’t code anymore, you know your way around Python and can certainly critique a data scientist’s work to ensure it’s good
  • Your CV talks about commercial impact through delivering data science capabilities
  • You’re not afraid to test and trial new ideas and approaches to get results
  • You’re a good people leader and inspire the teams you lead
  • You love big, meaty challenges and are really good with explaining the complexities of your work to non-technical audiences
  • Of course, you know a decent amount about AI and ML and how they can be applied to commercial environments
