Lead Data Scientist

** Leading UK Insurance Provider **

CLIENT

This leading insurance provider currently hold all their customer level data across 3 platforms, which they are looking to centralise and in turn start conducting more sophisticated analytics projects around data science and predictive analytics.

In this brand new role, you will be managing two Data Scientists as well as two Apprentices; so ideally you will have previous experience or training or mentoring more junior members of staff, but this is not essential; the Head of Data will help you in getting up to speed with the management piece.

Due to the infancy of this change in the way they manage and use their data, you will not be required to start delivering lots of advanced machine learning projects immediately, but rather some initial predictive analytics and modelling projects as well as pro-actively working with the Head of Data Head of Data to identify opportunities for more data science work.

So, with the above in mind we are considering one of two profiles for this role:

A Data Scientist

Someone with a degree in Machine Learning / Computer Science / Physics / Chemistry etc. and commercial experience in delivering machine learning projects.

A Statistical Modelling Analyst

An experience statistical analyst with a desire to gain exposure to / has recently been involved in more advanced predictive modelling and analytics projects, and eventually data science work.

Either way this is a rare opportunity to join a large-scale organisation at a time of positive change in the way they approach use of data to drive decisioning. Working alongside a highly credible manager, managing a small yet growing team (training provided) and gain exposure to data science projects.

Technically they use SQL, R and Python (as well as SAS EG for some legacy insights work) so experience with SQL plus any programming tool will be considered (SAS, R or Python) and training will be provided. Beyond the technical skills we are really looking for someone who has a strong desire to grow with the business in this role and working in partnership with the Head of Data to continue educating the business to the benefits of employing data science to drive commercial performance and an improved understanding of their customer base; which in turn will allow for better targeted marketing and acquisition and retention of customers.

LOCATION:         Tunbridge Wells, Kent (50 mins from main line London stations)

SALARY:             £70k plus excellent benefits, bonus & training

Experienced required:

  • Educated to at least degree level in a numerate subject
  • Advanced programming skills using R, SAS or Python for statistical analysis and predictive modelling, including using machine learning techniques
