Role:                     Marketing & Commercial Planning Manager
Location:             Office based typically twice a week – Offices are in London, Sheffield, Birmingham, Bristol – take your pick
Salary:                  £55,000 to £65,000 basic plus 10% bonus and solid benefits package

If you know what life’s like as a management consultant working for Accenture or Deloitte, or maybe one of the big three (Bain, BCG or McKinsey). How they’re dropped in to help make sense of business transformation, evolution or unlock the potential for a firm looking to enter a new market – you’ve kind of got the gist of what you’ll be doing day-to-day.

HOWEVER – and I make this bold because of three key differences.

  1. This sits client/business side. So rather than moving between lots of different businesses, living out of a suitcase and waiting in airports for flights, you’ll be really getting under the skin of a firm
  2. You’re used to devising a strategy, presenting to client and moving on. Right? With this you’ll stay and see through the impact of those suggests, as well as be more involved in how strategies may need to be adapted in flight too.
  3. Whilst the big consultancies do reward well, let’s face it, you’re also working 75+hrs a week. So roughly twice as many hours as you would do making a move here. Are you being paid accordingly?

The headlines of this opportunity are:

  • A firm with approximately 1.5m customers, and a £400m P&L
  • Joining a business in transition but is also at the start of a transformation phase. Where you will support in evaluating and identifying new verticals and market opportunities. Which products to retire and where opportunities may exist, including supporting with the thinking behind a brand refresh
  • Remit which stretches across the company’s P&L, trading, propositions, NPL, customer management and marketing teams
  • Really inspirational business leader as your line manager. Someone who’s had an enviable career to date. They have a pedigree of nurturing talent, unlocking people’s potential and giving them the right support, platform and exposure to really accelerate their careers. They’re a champion for diversity and inclusion in their industry and a really aimable character to boot.

What you’ll be doing:

Helping a business which a sizable operator in the UK telecoms and media space to remain on top. Particularly, working with one of their more entrepreneurial brands, looking to translate big picture strategy and longer-term transformational programmes, and translate them into 12 month business objectives strategic roadmaps.

Then take these 12 month objectives and translate them down to 3 month objectives. Communicating these plans to the various teams which need to come together in order to deliver them.

Keeping tabs on plans during their delivery to ensure they continue to align and achieve the bigger picture requirements. Dropping in to adjust plans in flight based on competitor activity or evolving market dynamics. Always ensuring they’re able to loop back up to the bigger picture 12 month objectives.

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Ambitious, driven and talented
  • Confident with being dropped into different business challenges, and able to pull together disparate data sources to create sound business strategies
  • Influential, and able to clearly articulate ideas and strategies to senior leaders and business directors. Getting them to see the opportunity and buy into the strategies you’re presenting
  • Some knowledge/experience to working on market/marketing strategy projects for businesses
  • Previous experience from a management consulting firm will be advantageous
