Medical Manager (formal Leadership role)

Home counties / home based working supported for up to three days a week.

Are you an experienced medical affairs professional and an existing final signatory who’s keen to take a step forward in your career as a medical affairs leader? If so I’d love to talk with you about a great role I’m handling.

We’re working with the UK affiliate of a very well established and highly respected leader in their field.  With a fantastic reputation for both their products, patient commitment and as an employer they’re well placed to offer an incredible opportunity for the right person.

The role we’re recruiting for is medical manager.  This is very much a formal leadership role.  The existing team comprises a small field based team of 2 MSLs and an office based medical advisor / final signatory.  We’re looking for someone who can effectively manage this team while contributing in a strategic capacity to the overall business and performing in a hands on capacity.

The role is considered to be a mixture of strategic and operational in terms of activities.

From a strategic perspective you’d be looked to be a key contributor to how medical contributes to the success of the business.  This could be looking at the medical positioning of the brand, how clinical research is prioritised and how insight management is used to best value.

From an operational perspective you’ll ensure that the team is well engaged, developed and supported – this will focus on the existing team as well as growth.  You’ll also be looked to for technical leadership.  The team is high calibre and performing well albeit in the context of the people be relatively early in their industry careers.  So training, coaching and mentoring as well as performance management will be high on your agenda.

We’ve got a very clear idea of what the successful candidate’s profile will look like.

You’ll absolutely be an experienced final signatory and capable of taking accountability for ensuring that the current, high level of medical compliance is maintained, both through your personal activities and that of your team.

You’ll also have held formal management responsibility.  This could simply have resulted in having managed one person but we’re looking for someone who understands the responsibility and activities that come with being a boss.

We’re looking for someone one the upward trend of their management career – it’s a distinct possibility that a more senior role will be available in the medium term so broader leadership is absolutely something that you’ll be looking for in time.

In terms of personality we’re looking for a bright, insightful people person who’s curious, pro active and focused.  There’s a lot of cross functional working in the role so you’ll also be diplomatic and good at influencing.

What our client offers in return is a really atypical environment.  For a multinational pharma company they’re incredibly good at creating a warm, supportive and pleasant environment.  This is absolutely not a cut throat, win at all costs kind of place.

There’s also a great benefits package including a bonus, good car allowance and strong pension.

We’d love to tell you more and if this sounds like you please get in touch for a full brief.
