About the Company

There seems to be a digital marketplace for most things these days.

  • Arts and crafts – Etsy
  • Beauty – FeelUnique
  • Stuff you’re reselling from China – Amazon or eBay
  • Stock for your eBay or Amazon Store - AliExpress
  • Stuff you’ve had dumped in the loft or garage – Facebook or Spock
  • Weird stuff, questionable adverts or not-so designer goods – it’s Wish.

Plus 100’s more.

This is a new marketplace which is rapidly taking off. It’s USP is being the only ‘one stop shop’ of its kind in the UK for this particular product category.

I can’t share too much about what industry this is in without giving the game away. But they exist in an industry worth over £80bn to the UK, and is rife with opportunity for disruption.

The company has pedigree, having already has established itself as the No1 marketplace of its kind in China. Achieving the kind of visitor and sales numbers most FTSE 100’s and other digital marketplaces would be jealous of.

They’ve identified the UK as being rife for disruption, and their fully rounded offering gives them an edge on the competition. As their platform connects with the customer both in order to drive sales across both new and used categories. But also as a content platform, targeted at the enthusiast interested in news, reviews and insights around the industry.

The firm is very much in ‘scale-up’ phase, with plans to double the UK office over the coming year.

The Role

Your role is to own the performance side of their paid social programme.

Performance absolutely is the name of the game here. With the company looking to achieve the kind of numbers you would have seen if you were part of Deliveroo, Uber or Airbnb at the stage they got their major investments.

You’ll be hands-on managing and executing paid social campaigns across all the typical platforms – Facebook, Youtube, TikTok, Instagram, etc. etc.

Working alongside will be a Social Media Manager whose focus is more towards the content side of things. But there will be times you’ll overlap as you’ll be working closely together on various campaigns and their activations.

There’s a pretty healthy budget being put behind campaigns too. You’ll be managing the budgets and forecasting. Ensuring campaign KPI’s are being delivered to, or making tweaks where appropriate to optimise performance.

You’ll also have a bunch of agencies supporting you too – some in the UK and some based out of China. Notably, the Chinese ones push global content which will need checking and localising for a UK audience. This will typically be checks to Google search and display banner copy, for example. But there’s also some email marketing pieces which may need your once over too, as well as supporting on the social content side too at times. So a good eye for editorial detail as well as copy creation would serve you well here.

What you can expect

With lofty goals and ambitions, there’s a lot to do.

They’re really looking to emulate the success they’ve already seen in China. That success was massive, and the UK market is rife with opportunity because we don’t have another firm which can offer the same, fully rounded solution and platform these guys already have.

So you’ve got to be the kind of person who is looking to do big things. Achieve great results, and aren’t prepared to settle for second best.

It’s also the kind of company who reward performance and will recognise you for what you achieve.

If their success in China replicated in the UK over the coming years, you can expect they’re going to be joining the illustrious ‘Tier-1’ destination employer tier enjoyed by a few digital and tech firms currently.
