Just how sophisticated can a broadband proposition be? It's all about the speed, right? and Virgin Media's got that sewn up...

If this were true, why aren't they No 1 in market share?

It’s because consumer purchasing decisions can be much more complex. Taking account of price, connection stability, brand preference, availability, bundled offerings. Added value services such as wifi mesh, self-service capabilities including parental controls, security services and a wealth of other variables or new considerations born from technology trends or changing lifestyles.

So there’s lots of features to play with in order to create solutions which specifically target consumer needs and interests beyond just price and speed.

Besides, who really needs a 1gb/s internet connection right now? Even 4k streaming only needs 30mb/s… it’s like buying a shipping container to transport your pint of milk home…

But you tell that to a 14 year old who wants both the speed and a 0.001m/s ping so they can dominate in CoD Online!

THE ROLE

So when you become the Propositions Manager for Broadband, you’re going to need to understand what those meaningful variables are. Identifying emerging trends and what concerns or interests are growing with consumers. Translating those into commercial opportunities which are relevant and present consumers with solutions.

There’s huge scope for growth in building in added value services with broadband products, and this firm isn’t looking for someone who wants to stay safe by just doing evolutionary improvements. They want you to bring disruptive thinking, creative solutions and have a meaningful impact. To trail blaze and do industry firsts. To keep them at the forefront and never follow.

You will own things end-to-end. Ideation from insight and understanding customer needs/interests, building the business cases, gaining buy-in, taking things through development and ensuring a high quality customer experience, into launch and in-life.

We’re talking large, often 8 digit multi-million pound proposition cases to prove and deliver to. There’s honestly no place better to do this with, no firm able to offer the same scale of opportunity with business exposure and ability to shine in this industry.

Key experience necessary

  • Experience in proposition development from a Consumer Service industry – e.g. rival telco, retail banking, insurance, utilities, etc.
  • Customer centric mindset – starting with insight and data. Spotting commercial opportunities matched to customer needs
  • You know your way around establishing a business case and selling these into firms
  • Great influencing skills and can bring people onboard with your vision and ideas for exciting new products and commercial opportunities – with evidence of successfully launching new products to market
