The Business

This established retailer are currently undertaking an ambitious transition to a digital and customer first approach. Like a lot of well-established retailers here in the UK, there is great opportunity to evolve old ways of working and attitudes to using data to drive decisioning, ultimately becoming truly data driven and customer centric.

Additionally, our client have been working closely with an external multichannel analytics consultancy, who are advising them on their overall analytics approach and who have, in turn, referred us in to support on this role – so you will partner with experts, taking a solutions focused approach to leveraging digital analytics to solve business problems and drive the improvement of customer understanding and targeted marketing forward.

The Role

This is a chance to be part of an evolution, helping one of the UK’s most famous department stores transition to a more data driven culture, where customer behaviour drives multichannel marketing and joined up thinking around customer journey and experience. You will work very closely with the Senior Leadership team to develop an Analytics function which delivers regular reporting across the business (both regular and to ad hoc requests), digital optimisation and web analytics around customer journey and online customer behaviour, supporting the external consultant in providing an end-to-end view of the customer from instore to online. You will formally manage a team of 4 Analysts (including a Manager), and this team will grow as the step change is made and analytics becomes embedded within decision making processes and demand grows and new opportunities are identified.

Projects will range from tag management (using tools such as Tealium, Google Tag Manager etc.) across the main website, to providing digital insights around customer behaviour and campaign performance, as well as digital optimisation and experimentation and A/B testing.

Technically you will still need to be hands on with delivering insights and analytical projects, as well as upskilling the existing team and onboarding new members; favoured tools are Adobe Analytics, SQL and Tealium.

Culture & Person Fit

The culture is a very strong one – highly sociable, friendly and fast paced (naturally, given it’s retail!). There is a real sense of ‘in it together’ and with a clear vision from an inspirational leader, exciting times lie ahead for this much-loved retailer. However, they recognise the challenges that are also in store, as do the senior leadership team, so we are looking for resilience, adaptability, an appetite for driving change and an interest in helping a data rich business really leverage this important asset.

Experienced required:

  • Educated to degree level in a numerate preferred or marketing related subject
  • Highly skilled in Adobe Analytics or Google Analytics for reporting and insights work
  • Experience in tag management and implementation projects, using tools such as Google Tag Manager, Tealium, Adobe Tag Manager etc.
  • Experience with experimentation techniques, including MVT or A/B testing
  • Experience of working with large volumes of customer data, ideally within retail (the latter being a STRONG preference)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritise several concurrent tasks
  • Ability to clearly explain complex technical ideas to multiple audiences both verbally and in writing
  • Experience in managing others or leading and building teams
