Job Title: UK, IRE & NORDICS Medical Director

Location: Weybridge, Surrey

If you are a medical affairs professional with a background in leadership who’s open to a genuinely exciting opportunity with a successful and growing niche Orphan Drug Company I’d love to speak with you about a role I’m handling.

My client is a small, relatively new biotech taking a number of products to market for orphan diseases.  With one product successfully launched and another close to that they have an going growth strategy for the UK and Europe.  To that end they are recruiting for a Medical Director to oversee and drive medical affairs activities for the UK, Ireland and Nordic countries.

The role is multifaceted.  At one level you’ll be defining an overall medical strategy for the region in conjunction with the EU VP of Medical and ensuring that this is delivered.  You’ll also be the line manager for a small, predominantly field based team of medical affairs colleagues and will have full line management responsibility for them.  At its most operational level there will be hands on medical affairs work including acting as a final medical signatory and contributing to the creation and implementation of de novo processes and SOPs.  We therefore looking for someone who is equally capable of working at all levels and is happy to do so.

I’m looking for

  • A GMC registered medic or UK registered pharmacist with a background in medical leadership, though this doesn’t have to be for a large team.
  • Someone capable of thinking and working strategically.
  • Strong operational skills, specifically as a final signatory

The personality fit is as important as the technical requirements of the role.

We’re looking for

  • Someone who is drawn to and would flourish in a small business with multiple, often changing priorities.
  • Someone who is credible, confident and highly engaging
  • Absolutely a team player.  This is a cliché but there’s an excellent culture at this business and they’re looking for someone who’ll actively build team spirit.
  • A solutions provider – creative, can do and optimistic.
  • Someone with an unequivocal commitment to ethics and good governance.

We’ve been working with this company for a number of years and they are genuinely exceptional in many ways.  For the right person this role will be a fantastic opportunity and we’d be really keen to have the opportunity to tell you more.

The role will be home based in the UK and applicants for the role absolutely must be happy to be based here full time (with the proviso that there will be significant travel in Europe) and you will also need to have an existing right to live and work in the UK.

There is a very strong remuneration package on offer for the right candidate and suitably qualified applicants can expect an immediate response from me.
