Role:                     Head of Data Science
Location:             Offices based in London – Mix of office and remote working
Package:              Up to a Six figure base plus generous stock package

If you could get your hands on all the anonymised consumer level transactional data from most UK and EU financial institutions, what kind of product solutions could you create with it?

If the latency was low, maybe something to inform strategies for investment houses, pension fund managers and stock market traders. Giving them insight into how companies are really performing and benchmarking versus competitors?

Or perhaps if you had enough historical data to pull from, create a market trend analysis product for businesses to see how the market is moving and consumer spend changing?

But that’s just off the top of my own “recruiter head”. Your imagination is likely firing a wealth of possibilities in how to put such a huge amount of data to work for businesses.

With this opportunity, you’ll be joining a business which has grown its market value over 500% this year. Making them one of the fastest growing firms in the UK’s data tech industry.

That’s despite being very considered with that growth by being selective of the kind of customers they take on. It’s all focused on creating value based on a prime proposition with little to no true competition in the UK right now.

Their first product offering made a huge splash within the financial markets. Providing distinct competitive advantage to customers versus other data and insight tools in the market because of its low latency.

Their second is beginning to get traction with retailers. Providing powerful insights at both national and local levels from data sources those companies didn’t have access to before.

Your role as he Head of Data Science is to oversee the team responsible for driving forward this data science powered solution. Refining existing capabilities, as well as driving innovation in thinking by coming up with new ways of productising ML/AI powered real-time insights, revenue, market share and consumer behaviour solutions.

As the Head of Data Science, your remit will be to:

- Lead an existing team of Data Scientists, including full-stack senior level individuals with deep technical knowledge. Providing guidance and support where needed, as well as challenging and stretching them in their thinking
- Oversee the team’s approach to developing and delivering advanced AI/ML solutions at scale
- Confidently problem solve issues which arise for your team. Coaching, mentoring and developing their talents so they too can become leaders of tomorrow
- Work on future product innovations, identifying how the application of data science techniques can be used to build IP into data, creating commercially scalable product solutions
- Oversea and gate keep projects for your team, and be the face of the Data Science capability within the business. Engaging with the wider business community and collaborating on various projects
- Confident in engaging with clients at a peer level, understands the business context and their challenges. Comfortable dealing with marketing, strategy and business teams and removing the complexity behind the product, so they can see and understand the value to them.

About the business

The company you’d be joining has been around for circa 4 years. They’re backed by Angel Investors and because of just how innovative their product is, they’ve had a series of companies look to buy them out already.

But this isn’t the plan, as there’s a long roadmap ahead to explore, and the product still has a lot of expansion opportunities into new industries worth exploring. This is what makes this opportunity so unique and exciting, as there’s so many avenues you could take, and so much growth in its future.

It's a really innovative data solution without much parallel in the UK. Giving them a really unique opportunity to explore, and you the chance to oversee and steer a data science practice as they explore those opportunities.

If you’re interested, here’s what we need to see from you

• Senior leadership experience of data teams within the data science arena
• Ideally some experience within financial services (e.g. retail banking, insurance), consulting environments, or within a telco’s big data solution teams (e.g. O2 Smart Steps, EE’s mData team, etc)
• Have a depth of experience in productising data science solutions with ML and AI at the heart of things
• Great leadership skills and enjoy team management
• Depth of experience in building teams and inspiring them to deliver fantastic work
• Confident in both business leadership meetings, delivering presentations and gaining buy-in without the jargon. As well as talking detail with your data team, comfortable getting into the weeds of an ML model, for example.
