Role: SEO Manager
Location: Central London – 3 days a week at a ‘destination’ office
Salary: £50,000 to £60,000 plus regular bonuses (monthly and quarterly) and benefits

How much do you want a job which revolves around sport?

Despite your remit being to own SEO (organic and technical) on behalf of a retailer, you’ll actually find the office is so heavily tailored towards sports they’ve got their own multi-sports court and Gym onsite, coupled with team days being held every month to try something new in the wide world of sports.

Whether you’re into team sports like Rugby, Football, Cricket or prefer something a bit more solo like running, cycling, rock climbing or kayaking. They’ve got you covered. Both as a category they cater to as a business, and because you’ll likely find opportunities to partake in it on one of their monthly ‘team days out’.

But what about the role?

You’ll be leading a team of 4, made up of copywriters, an SEO and translation specialist, with external agency support thrown in for good measure.

You will be responsible specifically for the UK side of the company’s SEO performance. They also have SEO managers sat across Europe each responsible for similar remits in their own native countries. You will be liaising and collaborating on some international initiatives on a relatively regular basis.

SEO is one of the biggest drivers for traffic to the website, and the company has set an aspiration to exceed £1bn in sales revenue by 2026. Your efforts in continuing to build and grow their visibility, traffic relevance and volumes will be paramount to supporting this effort.

One of the big opportunities for improvement is around some of the cross boarder development pieces. Ensuring UK and France teams are turning around projects quickly and effectively.

Another is on the content side. Being a rapid retail business which sells across so many different sporting categories, many with seasonality aspects to their sales cycles. There’s a constant demand for good quality content on product pages. Across blog and social sites which push traffic to the main ecommerce store. That content needs scrutiny to ensure it’s effective and optimised.

Office set up

The company runs a 3 day week from the office. But they’ve made the site a destination environment. There’s around 200 people based at head office, and it has an awesome social scene.

You’ll find no-one takes lunch at their desk because the company has a canteen which encourages people to hang out, play games and socialise.

The hierarchy of the business is quite flat, and it’s open plan working with lots of meeting rounds around. The leadership team sit on the same floor and there’s no ivory towers. If you’ve got a good idea, you’re encouraged to share it without the need to wait a week just to get a meeting with a senior business exec.

EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • Previous line management experience required, leading a digital content/seo team before
  • Have solid credentials in the SEO space with the ability to demonstrate results
  • Knowledge of the various SEO tools available such as Deepcrawl, Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, Oncrawl, etc.
  • Comfortable in a role which is going to require you to straddle and own both technical and content based SEO
  • Experience of SEO within a retail/ecommerce environment
