Role: Commercial Trading Analyst – SAS & SQL
Location
: North Tyneside, Darlington or Newcastle
Salary: £30,000 to £45,000 (based on experience)
Benefits: 10% on target bonus, 10% pension, 25 days annual leave and flexi-bens package plus lots more.

Chances are, you’re possibly looking at this advert wondering what the difference is between this, what you do now, and the wealth of other SAS analyst roles available, right?

Why should this one motivate you to click the ‘apply’ button?

The honest answer is, at its core, it’s a commercial analyst role using SAS and SQL to extract, manipulate and data mine.

But look beyond the headline, and you’ve got a potential gem of an opportunity.

You see, you won’t be limited to just production lined analysis. You will also be story teller and champion for actionable insight. Supporting commercial trading decisions on behalf of one of the UK’s biggest and most powerful consumer brands.

Informing decisions and making recommendations around proposition, price, value and margin. Protecting revenues and informing trading decisions. As well as investigating prospective mis-sales, providing guidance and recommendations to leadership to remediate them, should those situations arise.

You will be the person with all the answers, as you’ve been able to scrutinize and mine the data beforehand. Spotting key trends, drawing meaning and conclusion from them. Articulating these to the commercial trading teams to take action upon.

But what’s the team like?

It’s a pretty big function – around 40 people, and that’s just your immediate team. They’re a mix of analysts and administrators. There's varying degrees of knowledge and experience across SQL, SAS and Excel, which aligns to the demands of their roles and remits.

They’re a highly collaborative bunch, despite being located across the 3 sites mentioned in the locations above. Leaning on each other’s skills to produce high quality output for the business. They’re a pretty well-oiled machine too and internally hold good standing with senior executive teams for the value they bring to decision making within the business.

There’s also decent headroom for progression. Not just linearly within the unit and potential management roles when you’re ready. But also potentially into the trading functions or customer experience teams. At least, this echo's the path some have previously taken, and is the reason for this opportunity arising - because of an internal promotion.

So if you want something with a bright future. For a firm making really big investments in their people, environment and commercial offerings. You'd be hard pressed to find something which competes with this.

Key experience needed

  • Got to be confident with both SAS and SQL coding – writing extraction statements, also manipulating and mining data
  • You get how to pull together data from disparate sources, juggle it around, make it give up its secrets and can translate them into meaningful stories – which you’re comfortable articulating too
  • Experience within commercial or financial analytics will be beneficial to understand the kind of things you’re going to be dealing with here. But can also be customer insight/behavioural insight too
  • Must have the necessary visas to live and work in the UK – sponsorship cannot be provided.
