Role: Global Research and Insights Manager
Location: Offices in London, Brighton – or can also do the role remotely. But must be based in the UK
Salary: £50,000 to £70,000 plus bonus and benefits (salary based on experience, see below for explanation on range)

What makes a research programme effective and impactful for a business?

If you know this, and have experience of delivering it, you’re already half way there.

As this global education technology firm is looking for someone who understands research isn’t about having all the information and doing ‘research for research sake’ but is about asking the right questions, getting the right information and knowing how to translated it into meaningful and impactful insights.

Taking those to the business and establishing buy-in to follow those ideas, strategies and insights. Making things happen, putting the voice of the customer at its centre.

What you’ll be inheriting is a relatively well defined programme, but it’s got scope for improvement. With the need to evaluate what’s currently there, identifying what’s crucial and where gaps might exist. But also be prepared to remove aspects which don’t add value and just cause too much bloat to the programme.

This will cover both qual and quant studies, as well as primary and secondary source commissions which support often company wide strategic initiatives

You’ll have a lot of autonomy, leading on managing and delivery, right from scoping the research projects. Deciding the methodology, whether it’s to be delivered in house, or via the roster of external third party agencies.

Then be responsible for deciding the most impactful manner of delivering research finding and actionable insights back into the business, either through reporting or other means. What ever will have the required impact and meaning.

Research studies will cover a broad subject matter and will include market and industry insights, competitor landscape and evolving trends, market sizing and opportunities for new product, looking at market share, growth opportunities and both local, regional and global studies for existing products as well as emerging. Looking at assessing threats, trends and opportunities across a range of element which will impact the business.

You will have a couple of colleagues working alongside, based both in the UK and overseas. Plus of course the roster of agencies to lean upon when studies require either specialist support, or capacity requires it.

Your report line will be to the Global Head of Research and Insight, and your stakeholder network will include local and international Directors and heads of from across the business. Including into sales, marketing, product and customer teams.

Experience we’re looking for:

  • Experience of international or global research studies employing a mix of methodologies – qual and quant. Will also be interested in someone who’s only looked at local or singular markets, but has a real thirst and interest in expanding this into bigger things
  • Evidence of impact through your work. I.e. it’s not just been reporting, but actual insight. You’ve been the person responsible for taking these eureka moments to the various business leaders, got them to take note and action off the back of it.
  • Good hands-on analysis skills using Excel for quant data. Able to pull down data, build some models and comfortable analysing market and operational data
  • Sharp with your ability to define the right methodologies to take and approach to get the best results from research studies
  • Good knowledge of both primary and secondary research techniques
  • You know how to get the best out of an agency, with good briefing, project management and clear deliverables and objectives set.
  • Qualifications in a relevant field, e.g. MRS certification, etc.
