Marketing Strategy & Planning Lead – Travel
Location: Middlesex – Hybrid, typically twice a week in office
Salary: £60,000 to £63,000 base plus an incredible benefits plan which includes discounted holidays, 15% bonus and tons more.

A well-executed piece of marketing doesn’t just happen. By the time the final execution lands in front of its prospective customer, what’s gone in behind the scenes has been months in planning and taken tens, if not hundreds of people’s eyes pawing over it in order to get it to that moment.

The part you’ll play in this will be right back at the beginning. The planning and strategy phase for the company’s brand, commercial and customer goals. Long before anything creative or execution is on the cards.

Typically, this will be in the form of 3 year horizon scanning at it’s maximum level, bringing it down into an annual plan which will include establishing business priorities within the marketing plan.

Then breaking that down into quarterly plans and tactical strategies which look to drive revenue and give cost plans, influencing budgeting and investment allocation at senior levels for marketing teams and informs their media plans too.

At which point this will mark the handover point for which your work will be put into action by the operational and commercial marketing teams. Bringing to life a roadmap of activity which results in multi-channel campaigns that keep the lights on, tills ringing and customers happy. As well as awards rolling in for innovation and creativity (they’ve won something like 20 of them in recent years).

In addition, each year you’ll be in charge of their customer segmentation strategy. Revisiting to ensure its fit for purpose and re-tweaking where appropriate to ensure it’s always on point. Especially when considering the global nature of their business and the complexity of their customer base, and sophistication of their brand partnership environment too.

Ensuring this is properly embedded and adopted into the marketing plans, adjusting for any changes to customer segments, and they’re associated impacts to commercial levers and drivers too.

Finally, another big part of this role sits within strategic influencing and workshopping. There’s a lot of emphasis and importance on relationship management. Working with third party partners, reviewing their co-partner marketing plans ensuring share of voice, business priorities and visibility with customers is being fairly promoted in partnership marketing efforts.

This will be a management position with one report supporting you. It’s up to you to decide how’s best to disseminate the workload to best deliver the required outcomes.

Experience Needed

  • A marketing pedigree with a strategy and planning alignment
  • Solid academic pedigree with a good numerical aptitude. There’s going to be a lot of data to consume and make sense of as part of the day-to-day
  • Have experience working in a large, complex organisation – like a big retailer, telco, bank, utility, travel company. Something with lots of levers, drivers and moving parts and people. So understand the complexity this brings and have had to organise a marketing strategy or marketing plan for such an organisation before
  • A real passion for marketing, but also a great understanding on the mechanics of a commercial business and how money is made in a large commercial organisation
  • Great collaboration skills and experience running workshops
  • Tenacious, but also really patient with people and know how to get people onside
