Do you have what it takes to shape the future of 3 big brands?

The following analogy is the best way to describe the challenge at hand for this multi-brand business… and hopefully makes it a more interesting read than your standard job ad…

So you’re the proud parent to 3 boys… each unique, but like all brothers, they’re constantly looking to one up each other and think to be successful, they’ve got to compete for the same things.

Your first born (John) is big and strong. With traditional values and is captain of the football team.

Your second (Ben) is constantly looking to be No1 and in recent years had a significant growth spurt which made him the biggest boy in college. He’s captain of the Rugby team.

Your third (William), doesn’t make things complex. Recognises he’s not as big as his brothers, but that doesn’t stop him competing. He knows his strengths lie elsewhere and he plays to that which allows him to successfully compete with his bigger brothers.

As the parent of these 3 rambunctious boys, your job is to stop the in-fighting and set them on the right paths. Recognising each have some uniquely recognisable strengths, as well as untapped potential.

But you’ve got your work cut out as they’re fiercely competitive and each play to win. Particularly John and Ben, who have so far believed they need to have the same things, at the same time and be the best at what they both do. Often entering the same contests to be No1.

Like any good parent, you’ve got to help your boys understand their characters. What people really like about them as well as their untapped potential. To give Ben, John and William the right strategies to become more successful together than they would be competing individually, or against each other.

THE ROLE

Now translate this analogy to the corporate world. 3 brands competing for the same customers, offering the same products and services. Who, to date, have thought they need to appeal to the same audiences to be No1.

Your remit will not be limited to ‘brand strategy’, as this role goes way beyond look and fell. Getting into the commercial offerings, pricing strategies, customer experiences, customer migration strategies, etc.

Digging into the mid-and-long-term marketing strategy, customer profiles and behaviours, interests and opportunities, backed by a mountain of data (statistical and research based). To really unlock the potential of each brand. Helping them evolve, removing unwanted cannibalisation and improve overall market coverage and appeal.

Your measure of success will be in how the strategies you’ve implemented help move the needle on consumer consideration for each brand. Particularly looking to have them connect with audiences they’ve either under-indexed with, or just haven’t engaged with before. All whilst ensuring you’re not alienating current customers too.

Key experience necessary

  • Broad (consumer) marketing background with strategic bias – looking at mid or long-term marketing strategy and planning. Not campaign or GTM based
  • Commercial – you get a business case and understand the levers and drivers for a subscriptions based business – looking at underlying revenue, repeat income and base management strategies
  • May have established experience from an FMCG, strategy consulting house or consumer subscriptions business like telco, retail banking, insurance or utilities business
  • Can challenge more senior stakeholders across a large organisation. Dealing with complex challenges and can establish people’s buy-in to your strategies
